KOHI successfully concluded International Training Program ‘Health Policy and Health Program Management in Rwanda’

[By NBC-1TV H. J Yook]Korea Human Resource Development Institute for Health and Welfare, KOHI(President, Lee Sangyong) successfully concluded ‘Health Policy and Health Program Management in Rwanda’ with KOICA.

The course is part of Korea‘s ODA plans to contribute to improving the world’s health index, including MDGs. 10 trainees, including government officials and medical doctors from Rwanda participated in the program from 18th, Sep. to 8th, Oct. in 2011.

The course was designed to review the successful Korean health policy and program management, describe strengths and weaknesses of health policy and program management of Rwanda, and make practical and evidence-based action plans suitable for the country.

Quality lecturers from the Korea CDC, colleges of health, and medical schools helped the trainees learn and understand the programs throughout the course. The trainees also visited the Ministry of Health and Welfare, HIRA(Health Insurance Review and Assesment Service), Yongigun public health center, Soonchunghyang University MCH center, Gangdong Sacred Heart Hospital and Samsung Medison to see and learn Korea's health systems.

“I have visited Europe and the U.S to study, but Korea and KOHI is the best ” said Emmanuel Gahungu, Policy Formulation and M&E, Private Health Facilities Expert of MoH of Rwanda. “With the great hospitality from KOHI, I could experience more, and learn more” he added.

Successful conclusion of ‘Health Policy and Health Program Management in Rwanda’ is expected to contribute to the achievement of MDGs 6 of participating countries and the world.
