Fovia Brings Advanced Visualization to the Operating Room via the iPad

High Definition Volume Rendering(R) Changing the Face of Surgical Care

[By NBC-1TV H. J Yook]Fovia Medical, Inc., a world leader in volume rendering technology, and Teikyo University School of Medicine, one of the leading centers for medical research and patient care in Japan, today announced a collaboration to bring High Definition Volume Rendering® on the iPad to the operating room.

Fovia's HDVR® Connect software, now available for the iPad, delivers critical information in real time, giving surgeons the ability to significantly enhance surgical outcomes. With HDVR on the iPad, physicians and surgeons have access to advanced visualization on a mobile, multi-touch platform, allowing them to query and review critical data “on-the-fly” without losing valuable time during surgical procedures.

Fovia has developed a flexible, scalable solution designed for state-of-the-art hospital environments that addresses the increasing need for on-demand access to medical images. Teikyo University School of Medicine now has the ability to deploy Fovia's CPU-based, thin client-server technology to operate as many iPad clients as needed -- using Windows, Mac, or Linux servers that run either locally or via the cloud.

Teikyo University surgeon Shigeo Horie, M.D., Professor and Chairman, Department of Urology, and Visiting Professor of Medical Informatics Research Center, Teikyo University, Maki Sugimoto, M.D., Ph.D., are very enthusiastic about working with Fovia. “Being able to view medical images in the operating room is important, but being able to view and manipulate 3D patient data on an iPad with Fovia‘s High Definition Volume Rendering software is a revolutionary advancement. Fovia’s amazing clarity and ease-of-use will not only improve surgical outcomes today, but will help drive innovations in surgical care at our university for years to come,” said Dr. Shigeo.

Ken Fineman, Chief Executive Officer of Fovia, stated, “We are fortunate to have valued partners in the surgical space who are as knowledgeable and visionary as Drs. Horie and Sugimoto. I am confident that Teikyo University will use High Definition Volume Rendering to continue making advances in the field of surgical care, and Fovia is proud to help facilitate such advances.”
