Chevrolet Launches 2013 Malibu

Strengthened safety by incorporating emergency stop signal as standard

[By NBC-1TV E. H Kim]GM Korea launched and started taking orders today for the upgraded 2013 Chevrolet Malibu with an innovative Gen II powertrain and best-in-segment safety.

The most notable change in the 2013 Malibu is its powertrain. The 2013 Malibu features a new next-generation six-speed automatic transmission. The new transmission, with VFS (Variable Flow Solenoids) and an ECM (Engine Control Module) Controller, enables faster response and shorter shifting time, offering more dynamic yet stable driving. It also reduces CO2 considerably, making the Malibu more environmentally friendly.

The new transmission enables the 2013 Malibu to achieve fuel efficiency of 11.6 km/l combined, 14.9 km/l in highway driving and 9.8 km/l in city driving. With 65 percent of its body consisting of high-strength steel, the 2013 Malibu offers outstanding fuel economy as well as safety.

The 2013 Malibu’s innovative changes extend to its exterior design as well. LED rear combination lamps are new in the 2013 Malibu. They add a sportier feel to the Malibu’s rear styling, which was inspired by Chevrolet’s signature sports car, the Camaro.

An emergency stop signal is offered as standard in all trims of the 2013 Malibu. This further enhances the Malibu’s best-in-segment safety, which was already proven by the best-ever score in Korean NCAP safety ratings, maximum five-star ratings in Euro NCAP testing and the lowest repair cost in the segment in the RCAR test in Korea. During emergency braking, the emergency stop signal makes the brake lamps flicker simultaneously with ABS activation to warn other drivers and to prevent a potential rear collision.

“At first, customers may notice sportier styling with the LED rear lamps in the 2013 Malibu. But the real upgrade is the next-generation six-speed transmission, which offers both improved driving performance with faster response and better fuel economy,” said Ankush Arora, GM Korea Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. ”These new features, on top of its globally proven superb safety, will make the 2013 Malibu appeal to an even broader range of car buyers.”
