[By WTF/NBC-1TV H. J Yook]The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Presidential Council on Nation Branding (PCNB) in a ceremony in Seoul, Korea on July 21, 2011.

The MOU was inked between WTF President Chungwon Choue and Mrs. Bae-Yong Lee, chairperson of the PCNB at the conference room of the PCNB. Also attending the ceremony was WTF Secretary General Jin Suk Yang and Mr. Dae-Yong Choi, assistant chairman of the PCNB.

The main objective of the MOU is to help further globalize taekwondo and enhance its value as one of the nation’s representative brands. Taekwondo was originated in Korea as a martial art and it became an Olympic sport in 2000.

Under the pact, the two organizations agreed to fully cooperate for the branding projects of taekwondo and actively participate in overseas volunteering activities, especially in developing countries.

The both also agreed to fully cooperate to contribute to the promotion of global peace and serve the international community through taekwondo.

In addition, they agreed to jointly push other projects, if deemed necessary.

Shortly after the signing, there was a 20-minute taekwondo performance by the WTF Taekwondo Demonstration Team.
