While SK Planet, a subsidiary of SK Telecom, is leading the local mobile wallet market with over 11 million registered users, rival operators such as KT and LG Uplus are following far behind. Most bank and card companies are riding the mobile-wallet bandwagon, and retailers including Starbucks Korea and CJ Group are joining the wallet competition. In addition to global tech giant players in this field such as Google, Apple and Paypal, Samsung Electronics recently joined the wallet party.
