Panamera S Hybrid debut in Korea

NBC-1TV World News

[By NBC-1TV E. H Kim]Stuttgart Sports Cars Ltd., the official Porsche importer in Korea, introduced Panamera S Hybrid at The Shilla, Seoul on February 15th, 2012. The high performance and lower consumption of the new Grand Turismo exemplifies Porsche Intelligent Performance, a philosophy which Porsche has adhered throughout its history.

The new Panamera S Hybrid is the most economical Porsche of all time. The car marks the beginning of a new chapter of Porsche Intelligent Performance, continuing the success story of the four-door Gran Turismo. Without sacrificing sportiness and elegance, the new hybrid model combines a total power output of 380 hp (279 kW) with a fuel consumption of 10.2 km/L based on the Korea Energy Management Corporation. That equates to CO2 emissions of 231 g/km. This makes the Panamera S Hybrid the most economical Porsche of all time and also put the Panamera S Hybrid ahead of all the other hybrid production vehicles in its class, the luxury class, in term of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The Panamera S Hybrid sets new standards, both in terms of classic performance and when measured against hybrid vehicle characteristics. The Panamera S Hybrid accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, reaching a top speed of 270 km/h. The range in purely electric mode is approximately two kilometres, with electric driving possible up to 85 km/h depending on the driving situation.

The Panamera S Hybrid is driven by the same engine combination that has already proved itself in the Cayenne S Hybrid: the main propulsion is provided by a three-litre V6 compressor engine delivering 333 hp (245 kW) supported by a 47 hp (34 kW) electric motor. Both units are capable of powering the Panamera S Hybrid either alone or combined. The Panamera S Hybrid’s maximum output is available to the driver during what is called “boosting”. In this case, the combustion engine and electric motor’s drive torques are overlaid and added together. This is another major advantage of the Porsche hybrid concept. Whilst the combustion engine develops its maximum torque of 44.9 kg·m at 3,000 to 5,250 rpm, the electric motor is able to implement its full torque of up to 30.6 kg·m for propulsion from a standing start. The two drives’ maximum output of 380 hp (279 kW) is available at 5,500 rpm, whilst the combined torque of 59.1 kg·m guarantees powerful thrust at just 1,000 rpm. Instead of the power-split hybrid drive usually found on the market, Porsche is implementing a parallel full hybrid. A concept for which there are several good reasons. In contrast to other hybrid concepts whose advantages are essentially played out during urban operation, the system developed by Porsche additionally offers the option of “sailing” with the Panamera S Hybrid up to a speed of 165 km/h without using the combustion engine. The parallel full hybrid also enables the acceleration and elasticity typical of a Porsche without the so-called rubber band effect of power-split hybrid systems. The concept therefore outstandingly matches Porsche’s philosophy of offering extraordinary performance with maximum efficiency at the same time.
